Well, after the disapointments of the last few weeks weather we couldn't have asked for a better night. Milton batted first and got off to a good start with scoring runs off the bat, but unfortunately lost too many wickets to take full advantage of this. We picked up in the second half of the inningswith a special mention going to Joe who played a sensible innings and scored 7 without being out. Longstanton got off to a very slow start off the bat, but this was partly due to the number of wides we were bowling - we must practice bowling straight more! In fact their first seven batsmen did not score a run off the bat at all. However we fielded well and I was pleased that everyone put in effort. I am especially pleased with everyone for who this was their first match - James Drummond, Harry Heath, Mark Hutchins and Joe Ross-Nelson. Man of the Match: Joe Ross-Nelson for his 7 not out and taking a wicket in his first over - well done Joe.
Despite all the rain we had on Tuesday evening in Milton, Over seemed to have missed it all, so we played in reasonable conditions. We batted first and got off to a slow start. We picked up as the innings went on, but lost too many wickets again, although not as many as last week. Four of the wickets were run-outs (some absolutely suicidal !!), but hopefully the practice session we had today will improve on that situation. Overall batting was better than the previous match, with special mentions going to Liam and James Linstead for their 15 not-out partnership at the end (including James' 4 that nearly finished up in St Ives but the umpire wasn't going to give it...). Also, Harry, Ashley and Jason scored some good runs off the bat. Bowling again was lots better than the previous week. We bowled a lot more accurately and consequently gave away a lot fewer extras. However, Over had a few good batsmen who capitalised on the situation and we couldn't keep their score down sufficiently. Noteworthy performances from James Linstead (2 overs, 2 maidens), Zac who took a wicket in his first ever over and of course man-of-the-match James Drummond for his 2 wickets. We will be winning soon if we keep improving like this! Man-of-the-match: JAMES DRUMMOND
The match went ahead in good weather despite threatening to persist it down again during the afternoon. We batted first and got off to a slow start, losing several wickets in the first few overs. Mark Hutchins picked us up with his 6 not out and Sachin was star batsman of the day hitting 17 runs, but running himself out just before the end. Cottenham had some very good bowlers, probably the best we have faced for a while, and consequently we lost 13 wickets in total. We bowled well on the whole, a few more wides than I would have liked, but not too bad. I was particularly pleased with Ashley who despite not wanting to bowl at all did well in his over. Mark also bowled well and was only just pipped to being man-of-the-match by Sachin. Fielding was generally good, but we still don't walk in or concentrate for the whole match. Man of the match: Sachin for his batting performance.
Get in there !!!! Well, what can I say? A great victory. I was worried during the afternoon when it started to rain (again) but it was short lived and we had a warm, if grey, evening. We bowled first and got off to a great start with Liam And James Drumond bowling really well - they were net -5 runs after 4 overs. We then continued to bowl really well, with notable performces from Mark who took his first wicket and Daniel who had a wicket maiden in his first match! (I still had to shout a lot to get you to walk in though!!) We batted exceptionally well too, and exceeded their score after just 7 overs. There were still some bowled wickets that we shouldn't have conceded; we will continue to practice firward defence until you all get it... Notable performances from Jimbo (20 but was out once , Jon Littlewood hit some great shots as did others, and Mark who hit a great 4. Man-of-the-match: Mark Hutchings for his all round performance - well done Mark
Oh dear. After Tueday's jubilation we came back down to earth with a crash! At least we played this time even though it was rain interrupted. We batted first and got off to a slow start, but in a positive direction. Unfortunately the bowling got even better and our wickets started to fall. A couple of notable innings from Ashley (a great 4 off his last ball) and Sachin, but we ended up with 199. Histon's good bowlers were complimented with good batsmen too, and they raced away with good batting performances. Play was interrupted after 3 overs and 2 balls requiring retirement to the pavillion. We played on for 9 overs to get a result - see above for the calculation. Man of the Match - Ashley for his batting performance.
What a great turnaround from last week! We didn't win but we played really well tonight, and the weather was good, although we didn't get away completely rain free. Histon batted first and got off to a good start with their opening pair scoring well. Liam bowled well though and took the catch of the season off his own bowling that even had the opposition applauding! They continued to score staedily throughout their innings with Lois and James Drumond taking our other two wickets. We gave away a few extras too many again to have a target of 297. We got off to a steady start with Emma and Zac opening the batting. Everyone batted well, with Ashley, Liam, and James Drummond not losing a wicket; James Purvis in his first match got 1 not out (well done James). Unfortunately our scoring rate was not quite high enough and the 50 needed to win off the last three overs was too much even for Jimbo! However, everyone should be pleased with their peformance tonight (even the scorers - well done Teresa). Thanks to everyone who helped out with setting up, refreshments etc. Man of the Match - Liam for his superb catch and overall good performance.
The tournament took place on a grey but dry Sunday. We turned up in plenty of time to find out that our first match was not happening as Granta had not brought three teams with them. So we hung around for an hour, then played Hardwick on a very green wicket (with a very orange ball). We only just lost by 8 runs to this team who eventually went through to the semi-final. Our next three matches (Camden, Haslingfield and Abington) were all wins, with the last match against the Home side ending with a contravertial last ball not-out when it appeared Harry had been caught behind; we won by just 3 runs! The tension then mounted as we waited to see if we had made it through to the semi-finals, but alas, the results collator said we had a runs average of 276 compared to 284 for the team that went through; he then sank another lager for good measure. So, Fifth out of 17 was pretty good really - well done everyone....
Well, it turned out to be a pleasant evening, even though we forgot the beers (again) and we lost. We batted first and got off to a solid start with Lois and Jon L taking us to 213 with no loss of wicket. Liam and Mark were going well too, until we lost a couple of wickets which put us back. The middle order then made steady but slow progress, until the cavalry came in at the end and put on 24 runs (without losing a wicket, Jimbo!) to take us to 257. We at least had something then to bowl at, but Cottenhams batsmen were generally too strong, and AGAIN we gave away too many extras. Notable bowling from Liam, Mark, Harry and Joe who claimed a brilliant bowled wicket! Man-of-the-Match - Harry Heath for his all round performance especially his fielding that was very good tonight.
