Third Team Match Reports

It was a very successful season, we stayed up in division 3 and beat many good teams. The production line of players keeps rolling!

Sun 29th May 2005 Bluntisham II

Sun 29th May 2005
Lower Junior Cup Bluntisham II v Milton III 29/5/05 What a nail biting climax to the weekend for captain Fraser Confrey as he saw his side complete their second win in 24 hours. A chilly overcast afternoon saw Bluntisham II win the toss and elect to bat first. Jay Dann, playing his first game of the season, opened the bowling and enabled Ciaran O Kane to take a brilliant catch in slips off the first over. Rob Jervis opened at the pavillion end and continued his excellent progress with his bowling. The two young bowlers managed to restrict the Blunty batsmen to only scoring off the odd wide and single run. The change of bowling attack saw Trevor Peck and Bob Newton continue in containing the Blunty scoring although wickets were difficult to come by. With Grahame Newton changing his wicket keeper pads for the ball and Dan Matthews taking over behind the stumps Milton were determined to try and secure a few more wickets. Blunty were starting to steadily increase their run rate and managed to get over the 100 mark at the 25th over. The latter stages of the match saw another 3 wickets fall and Blunty ended their innings at 168 for 5. After the tea break, captain Confrey took a huge gamble by asking Jay Dann to open the batting with experienced batsman Bob Newton however the risk appeared to pay off as the 2 openers managed to provide a solid start to the innings before Jay Dann was caught behind for 24. The arrival of Club Chairman Stoehr to offer his moral support, provided Milton with the impetus they needed to drive on with the bat and the succession of solid performances by Milton players took the team tantilising close to their target. As Milton lost 7 batsman for 150 the excitment around the ground was reaching fever pitch and with Chairman Stoehr fretting about the defrosting shopping in the boot of his car, Milton had greater things on their minds. With the senior players having played their part it was left to the younger Colts to show what they were made of and as the overs started to ebb away Ciaran O Kane and Rob Jervis both played commanding performances to see Milton safely home for what Captain Confrey describes as \'The greatest win of the season\'
