This page gives a brief summary for all 6 of our teams in the 2005 season.
First XI
The first team competed in CCA Junior League Division 1N and finished 6th out of 10 teams (W7, L8, T1). The 1st and 2nd teams combined to play in the Junior Cup where we were knocked out in round 1. After a poor first month, the team rallied well and had a winning record for the remainder of the season. The most pleasing aspect of the season was the emergence of young players who have made their way up through the ranks from colts cricket. Eight U18 players played at least one match in the 1st team this year. (Jez Major)
Second XI
The Second XI played in Junior 2NA this season. We finished third, after having a great start to the season. We struggled in the middle of the season but finished strongly with two ties. (Jon Amphlett)
Third XI
It was a very successful season for the third team, we stayed up in division 3 and beat many good teams. The production line of players keeps rolling! (Fraser Confrey)
Colts U-15s
After much consideration it was decided to field a team in the Premier League. The position of 4th out of 5 was probably about expected but it was disappointing to lose both matches to Histon. The best performance was a victory against Sawston in which a magnificent opening stand by Colt of the Year Sam Allen (57) and Michael Franklin (57 not out) laid the foundation. We were a little unlucky to lose the first match against St.Giles but won the return by default. We were also unfortunate to lose in the cup: having been 140 for 2 against Fordham with overs left, the rain came, and in the rematch we batted a lot less well and our score of just over a hundred was just overhauled. The pick of the bowlers was Nick Seaman who with Rob Jervis kept a tight grip on the opening overs, but the middle order change bowling was not economical enough. Simon Coston was a fine all rounder and there were occasional good moments from Jack Franklin and Adam Coles. (Rob Henderson)
Colts U-13s
The U13's played in a very strong league, which featured teams such as Granta, Camden and St. Giles, we finished a very creditable 4th, which was made more impressive because most of the team were U12 or U11. We also reached the semi-final of the cup. (Steve Dye)
Colts U-11s
The U11s had 19 players registered this year, most of which played for the team. We had a very young squad this year, with all but three players actually being U10s, so should do much better next year. Unfortunately, we didn't win any matches but had an enjoyable time playing and training on a Saturday morning. We only managed to use the bowling machine once before we broke up for summer holidays, but hope to make much more use of it next year; thanks to Bob for managing to get this for the club, and of course thanks to Catherine and helpers for preparing the ground. Awards went to James Drummond for best batting average, Mark Hutchins for best bowling average, Ashley Leonard for most improved player, and Om Menom for best new player. (David May)
