Third Team Match Reports

We played in Junior League 4 NB and played 10 games with 4 rained off. We won 8 and lost 2 and got promoted as champions. The pleasing thing was that it was a team effort and everyone contributed. The team consisted of mostly youngsters coming through the ranks – half of the players were 18 or under. We did very well and every game was competitive and a lot of games were fairly close. Next year it will be harder due to league re-organisation. Steve McHugh was player of year. Batsman was James Henderson. Bobby Welton was bowler. In summary it was a good season all round… Well done!

Sun 10th June 2007 CAMBOURNE

MILTON 3RDS 134-9 (40 OVERS) P.Allen 42, S.Coston 30
CAMBOURNE 136-5 (32 OVERS) D.Godfrey 54, P.Darrington 47, S.Coston 3-31
The second round of the Lower Junior Cup saw Milton 3RDS play division 3S Cambourne at the Sycamores. Milton were put into bat and from the start the wicket was variable as Cambourne's lively pace attack caused problems throughout. Opener Phil Allen batted admirably for a fine 42 until dismissed in the 37th over. His main supports came from a quick 30 from Simon Coston. Milton reached a respectable 134-9 against a bowling attack far better than anything faced in the league so far.
Following two early wickets, a partnership of 90 runs put Cambourne in charge and despite three further wickets, they reached their target comfortably with seven overs and five wickets to spare. The pick of the bowlers was Simon Coston picking up 3-31 from 9 overs whilst Ali, Lester, and Rob Jervis caused various problems at times.

Sat 9th June 2007 WITCHAM 2NDS

MILTON 3RDS 164-8 J.Henderson 33, A.Thorne 24not out
WITCHAM 2NDS 56 all out R.Welton 3-26
On another hot day at Fenstanton, Milton were put into bat on a slightly variable pitch and again lost two early wickets to Witcham's young bowling attack. But James Henderson rediscovered his form with a quick 33 including 6 boundaries. When the sixth wicket fell for 90, in the 24th over, Andy Thorne joined Ian Coston and as last week this pair put on 61 for the next wicket to enable Milton to reach a challenging target of 164-8 in the 40 overs.
After opening bowlers Ciaran and Bobby finished their spells, Witcham had lost 5 wickets and their reply never got going. Ciaran finished with 2-8 from 7 overs and Bobby 3-26. Change bowlers Martin Coston and James Henderson both took two wickets each and Alex Goodwin took the last as Witcham were all out for 56 in the 19th over.

Sat 2nd June 2007 NCI 4THS

MILTON 3RDS 83-8 (30 OVERS) I.Coston 17
NCI 4THS 82-6 (40 OVERS) P.Knibbs 25not out, J.Coston 2-10
On a hot day at Fenstanton, NCI batted first on a slow pitch still damp from the previous weeks rain. NCI found batting challenging as they reached 82 for 6 in their 40 overs. Milton used seven different bowlers all of who were economical as the wickets were shared around, with the experienced campaigners John Coston and Ray Daniels conceding just 19 runs from 15 overs between them.
Any thoughts of a quick victory were soon dispelled with four wickets down for just 16 runs. At 36-6 the winning total still seemed far away but Andy Thorne joined Ian Coston and they added 43 to bring victory within reach. Milton finally scraped home in the 31st over with 2 wickets remaining.

Sat 19th May 2007 WIMBLINGTON 2NDS

MILTON 3RDS 204-6 (40 OVERS) S.Coston 71, P.Coulson 49no
WIMBLINGTON 2NDS 131 all out I.Gill 56, C.O'kane 3-12
After last weeks cancellation, The thirds finally got their season underway. On an overcast day, Milton lost the toss and were put in to bat on an artificial wicket. After Ciaran was out to the first ball of the innings, the thirds struggled to 66-5 after 16 overs. The pick of Wimblingtons bowlers was K.Judge, who took four wickets for 32 runs. Newcomer Phil Coulson joined opener Simon Coston and a partnership of 103 changed the course of the game. Simon was eventually out in the 35th over for a fine 71. Phil remained to the end finishing on 49 not out. The final total of 204 included 60 extras, as no other batsmen reached double figures.
Opening bowler Bobby Welton was hit for a six off his first delivery, but then clean bowled both openers in a five over spell. At the other end Rob Jervis bowled six accurate lively overs for 17 runs. Stuart Kelsey and Martin Coston both bowled accurately keeping the run rate down until Wimblington I.Gill was out for 56 in the 21st over. With Wimblington now behind the required run rate, wickets fell as Milton rotated the bowlers. Ciaran picked up 3 for 12, and the other wickets were shared around as Wimblington finished on 131 all out in the 35th over.
A fine win for a young third team which contained four 15 year olds and five 17 year olds.
