Fenstanton win by 5 wickets
Fenstanton easy to a Milton total despite the Milton’s tail’s gritty performance.
Jon, standing in for Bob, lost another important toss and were put into bat on a good looking wicket on a hot day. Jon and Phil opened solidly enough, putting on 32 for the first wicket before Jon was caught off the lively Piaggesi behind in the 14th over. Milton’s middle order didn’t really come off however. Hursh was caught, John Sanders, Sam Allen and Dave Sanderson all caught and bowled. The ball was beginning to cut up the pitch badly. When Richard Thorne fell, Milton were facing a score of under a hundred for the second week running. However, some good batting by Simon Coston, Barry Crick, Jeremy Jones (in his first game back) and Ian Coston saw Milton to a respectful 142 all out in the last over.
After tea, Mike Piaggesi came out determined to blow away the Milton attack. He hit a very quick 40, including dispatching Dave for 25 in one over before getting trapped by Hursh LBW. Some excellent bowling by Hursh and Jeremy Jones brought the game within Milton’s reach. However, D. Staines and J. Reynolds played with steady heads and saw Fenstanton home with 5 wickets (and plenty of overs) to spare.
